Live Rust is a 1979 live album with Crazy Horse recorded during his fall 1978 Rust Never Sleeps tour. One of the most influential artists of all time, Neil Young has set a standard of artistic integrity and iconoclastic creativity. Before starting his multi-platinum solo career, he was a founding member of the folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield and worked with the groups Crazy Horse and Crosby, Stills and Nash. The Canadian singer-songwriter was recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 for his work as a solo artist and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1982.

Featuring moving acoustic material and a possessed Crazy Horse on select tracks, Neil Young's 1979 concert recording Live Rust was issued just a mere months after its spiritual guide Rust Never Sleeps which was also cut largely live but with overdubs added later and limited audience noise. Captured on October 22, 1978 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, California, the sprawling double album finds Young wearing both his folksinger and bandleader hats and gracefully mixing early classics ("Sugar Mountain," "After the Gold Rush," "The Loner," "Cinnamon Girl," "The Needle and the Damage Done") and then newer material ("Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)," "Lotta Love," "Sedan Delivery," ""Powderfinger") in what adds up to be one hell of a show.
