One of the great trumpeters of the late 1950s, Dizzy Reece was born in Jamaica, spent years living and playing in London, and moved to the United States in 1959 after recording Blues In Trinity for Blue Note in London. Star Bright was his American debut and just one of three albums he made in the U.S. before returning to Europe. Reece should have stuck around longer for his playing is the equal of any American trumpeter of the time.

On four of his originals (including "Groovesville" and "A Variation On Monk") plus two standards, Reece displays very impressive technique, a sound of his own, and plenty of passion. He overshadows his star sidemen (which include Hank Mobley and Wynton Kelly) and makes the case for his place in Blue Note and hard bop history as one of the giants.

Like all Music Matters Jazz releases, this audiophile vinyl reissue is mastered from the original analog tape and pressed on 180g virgin vinyl at RTI in Camarillo, CA. The highest quality gatefold cover features original session photography on the inside.
