Decca Records is embarking on a new audiophile vinyl reissue series to spotlight many gems of British jazz first released in the 1960s and 70s. British Jazz Explosion Originals Re-Cut will dig deep into the history of the genre, making many tracks and albums available on vinyl for the first time since their original release.

  • British Jazz Explosion Series
  • Original Re-Cut Edition
  • Cut from Original Master Tapes
  • Remastered at Gearbox Records, UK
  • Cut By Caspar Sutton-Jones
  • Pressed at Optimal Media in Germany

The "British Jazz Explosion" vinyl reissue series continues with John Surman and John Warren's "Tales of the Algonquin" (1971), an album recently included in Jazzwise Magazine's "The 100 Jazz Albums That Shook The World." The Penguin Guide to Jazz awarded the album a coveted crown, praising it as a "masterpiece ... with legendary status among British jazz fans."

Thanks to a 16-piece band featuring a 27-year-old Surman, it has a lush sound full of twists and turns, backed by Surman's intense, Coltrane-influenced playing, John Taylor's exquisite piano and sidemen such as Mike Osborne, Stan Sulzmann, Barre Phillips, Harry Miller, Alan Jackson, Stu Martin, John Taylor, Alan Skidmore, Harry Beckett, Kenny Wheeler and others

Limited edition, remastered by Gearbox. 180g Optimal pressing, laminated flip-back sleeve, 12x12 insert with new liner notes by Tony Higgins and interviews with Surman, Warren and album producer Peter Eden.
