Nippon Columbia continue to explore the work of Jiro Inagaki and his Soul Media, or indeed here in their larger Soul Big Media incarnation for their first album Jazz & Rock Out, a live recording originally released in 1970. The clue's in the title, and there's plenty of fusionist action going on here, with guitarist Ryo Kawasaki bringing some sweet, dexterous blues-rock solos into the mix.

It was recorded at about the same time as the masterpiece “Head Rock” by Jiro Inagaki and Soul Media, but here they call themselves Soul Big Media and face a large formation – a total of 12 musicians.

This is a valuable live recording of the dawn of Japanese jazz-rock. It is a live recording of the concert <Midsummer Night’s Jazz & Rock> held on July 21, 1970 at Hibiya’s open-air concert hall.

Original songs such as “Yippy” and “Free Rock” can only be heard in this work, as well as the song “The Ground for Peace”, which is also included in “Head Rock” and arranged by Masahiko Sato.
