Exploring themes of dissatisfaction and the unrealistic pursuit of perfection, "Fire on the Mountain" attempts to make sense of the fantasies people tell themselves through lush instrumentation and a song structure that changes as abruptly as one's own life often does. The first part's urgent acoustic guitar and driving backbeat creates a sense of anxiety. This differs from the second part's more melancholic and reflective tone - shaped by softer vocals, glockenspiel, and Mellotron flutes.
