Chet Baker was an American jazz trumpeter, actor and vocalist and a major innovator in cool jazz, leading him to be nicknamed “the prince of cool”. The 1989 album Cool Cat contains six tracks, split into 3 instrumentals; "Swift Swifting ", "'Round Midnight", "Caravelle" and the 3 vocal tunes "For All We Know", "Blue Moon" and "My Foolish Heart". The songs are written by top jazz composers, including Thelonious Monk, Rodgers & Hart. For the recordings of Cool Cat, Chet is accompanied by pianist Harold Danko, bassist Jon Burr and drummer Ben Riley.

It was 1975 when Wim Wigt founded Timeless Records with the help of his wife Ria. Wim was a renowned agent and jazz musician. Wim's career in music was initiated as a hobby that got out of hand. Wim and Ria organized concerts and small tours throughout the Netherlands, but at the request of many American jazz musicians, their business went international and grew exponentially. They worked with Machito, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, set up numerous tours for Art Blakey, Chet Baker, Toots Thielemans, Pharoah Sanders, and organized concerts with Dionne Warwick, Chuck Berry, The Hollies, Alan Parsons, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, George Benson and Nina Simone. To top things off, Wim and Ria acted as management during Chet Baker's latter years, which are also seen as Baker's most prolific years.

During those same years, Wim and Ria founded Timeless Records. Their first release was Cedar Walton's Eastern Rebellion, which is considered by many as one of the best bebopjazz recordings from the seventies. As of 2020 - 45 years later - the label had issued some 900 releases and founded three sub-labels, including Limetree Records. Notable releases include Dizzy Gillespie Meets Phil Woods Quintet, McCoy Tyner's Bon Voyage, Lou Donaldson's Forgotten Man, and albums by the George Adams-Don Pullen Quartet, Chet Baker, Bill Evans and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.

To celebrate the 45th anniversary of Timeless Records, Music On Vinyl is releasing a special jazz series to honor the legacy that the label has built over the past decades.
